Olney Theatre Center is proud to name the Sandy Spring Slave Museum as our official Community Partner. Throughout our 2021-2022 season, we are will be amplifying the incredible work of the Sandy Spring Slave Museum by hosting Local History Hours where you can listen to museum staff tell stories about the history of our community, and then share your own oral histories with the Humanities Truck that will be visiting our campus throughout the spring and summer.
The museum is a private non-profit organization located in historic Sandy Spring, MD in the “Freedman's Settlement” on Brooke Road. The museum does not receive local, state, or federal funding. The museum is a labor of love run 100% by volunteers. The Sandy Spring Slave Museum & African Art Gallery, Inc. (SSSM) was founded in 1988 by Dr. Winston Anderson, Ph.D., Presidential Award for Excellence recipient, with the following mission:
The museum is open weekends 11:00am-5:00pm
Group tours available by appointment only (weekdays)
$10 per person $5 school-aged students with ID
Open Wednesday - Sunday: 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM
