Class Collab Teaching Artist for 2024-2025

Olney Theatre Center is looking for teaching artists for our Class Collab program, our educational residency program for local public schools. We are planning to work with one public middle school for a year-long residency that includes weekly in-school workshops, a visit to Olney Theatre for a student matinee, and a culminating performance of student-written work on our stages at the end of the year. The residency would be centered on a production in our 2024-2025 season. Teaching artists will co-teach in pairs and must be available during school hours (sometime between 7:30 am-3:30 pm) starting between September 2024 and May 2025 in addition to some pre-work prior to visiting schools.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach up to three in-school theatre workshops each week, mostly centered on collaborative playwriting activities that incorporate the themes of the chosen production.
  • Design curriculum in collaboration with Olney Theatre Center.
  • Help facilitate and organize any presentation of student-produced work.
  • Be able to commute to schools for lessons and to Olney Theatre for events.

Requirements

  • A can-do attitude and a willingness and enthusiasm to work with teens.
  • Some teaching experience.
  • Mobility in the classroom to reach all of the small groups.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Flexibility and organizational skills.
  • Excellent listening, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Reliability and punctuality.

Compensation
$90 per hour (up to 75 hours total for the school year and inclusive of prep time)
