Olney Theatre Center believes in supporting and inspiring the next generation of theatre makers. As part of this mission, the theatre provides an Apprenticeship Program every year. The Apprenticeship Program is a year-long experience that spans multiple departments and offers emerging theatre artists the opportunity to get hands-on experience in their intended arts profession. Meet one of 13 apprentices, Abby Weber!

Abby Weber, Company Management Apprentice

Pronouns: She/They

Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska

Education/Training: Doane University BFA

Favorite Show you have been a part of: Much Ado About Nothing my Junior year of College. All my friends were in it. We had a blast.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Which apprenticeship are you part of at Olney Theatre Center and what does that position involve?

I am the Company Management Apprentice. I help book travel, and accommodate the multiple guest artists for each show.

Why are you interested in this area of theatre?

I have always been interested in the admin side of theatre. No one really thinks about who sets the foundation for a show to work. Who keeps the oil in the car if that makes any sense? I enjoy learning about how things happen.

What inspired you to get into theatre?

I wanted to make my parents laugh.

How would you describe yourself as an artist?

A collaborator.

What do you like to do outside of theatre?

I sing for gay choirs, I write jokes, and do some stand-up. I love live music. I also hang out with my nephews.

What is your favorite part of this apprenticeship so far?

The many opportunities to think on my feet.
