For our 2019-20 season, we are officially beginning our Adult Education Classes. These classes are open to adults of all ages and skill levels. You don't need to have a knowledge of theater to enjoy and learn from our education classes. To register, contact Weldon Brown at 301-924-4485, ext. 121.

Communicate Like An Actor with Paul Morella

Whether playing to an audience of thousands or just one other person, the tools an actor uses to convey ideas and emotions through language, voice, and physicality can be employed by anyone to communicate more effectively in their day-to-day life. This class will provide those tools to help you speak, listen, and respond whether your audience is a single colleague at work, a client receiving a presentation, or an important speech at a conference. Paul Morella brings years of experience as an actor and master storyteller who is perhaps best-known by Olney audiences for his annual solo version of A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas.

Know the Show: Singin' in the Rain

Ever wonder how a musical gets created at Olney Theatre Center? Go in-depth through the design, rehearsal, and performance process of OTC's production of Singin' in the Rain, hosted by OTC veteran designer and Helen Hayes Award winner Rosemary Pardee. Observe the process from design meeting to performance and talkback, and see how the team collaborates on one of the most ambitious musicals Olney has ever produced.

Students will attend:

  • A design & production meeting: On or about September 3 (time TBD)
  • Final design presentations: Monday, October 7 at 7pm
  • Rehearsal day observation: Saturday, October 19 (time TBD)
  • Designer Run: Tuesday, October 29 (time TBD)
  • Technical Rehearsal: Sunday, November 3 at 2pm
  • Saturday performance and talkback: Saturday, November 23 at 2pm

Class Fee: $500/$450 for Members (fee includes ticket to Singin' in the Rain)

Acting 101

Ever wanted to try acting but either didn't get the chance or didn't know where to start? This beginner-level class with Senior Associate Artistic Director Jason King Jones will give you the skills and technique to find the actor that lives in all of us. Using improvisation, monologues, and short scenes, you'll begin the journey of understanding the craft of acting and how it can unleash your creativity.

Class meets Monday Evenings from 8pm-9:30pm - beginning September 23.
(Sept. 23, 30, Oct 7, 14, 21, and 28)

Class Fee: $300/$250 for Members

Three Great Plays with Eleanor Holdridge

Take a deep dive into three great plays with Eleanor Holdridge, Director of OTC's Pippin and professor at Catholic University. From Greek Tragedy to Shakespeare to a modern classic, investigate the themes, structures, and characters of three great plays.

Class meets Saturday Mornings at 11am beginning March 21
