Boston University School of Theatre Arts
On July 1, 2002, Olney Theatre Center artistic director was
named director of the School of Theatre Arts at Boston University.
With the beginning of his tenure there, the university has
enthusiastically supported a deep academic/professional affiliation
between Boston University and Olney Theatre Center.
During the current academic year, ideas and programs are being
generated that will include, but will not be limited to, investigating
a graduate acting program to be designed between the two institutions,
student internships in acting, design and production as an integrated
part of the academic tracks of those programs within the university,
opportunity for recent graduates to launch their professional careers
from the Olney Theatre Center, development of new plays for the theater
though a unique three-fold affiliation between the School of Theatre Arts,
the Boston Playwrights Theatre and Olney Theatre Center.
We, at Olney, are thrilled
with the potential of this exciting new partnership. Keep an eye
on our Web site to find how the programs are inaugurated in the
coming months.

University of Maryland, College Park Graduate Design Program
With a 10-year history of collaboration between our institutions, Olney
Theatre Center continues its traditions of a strong relationship with the
design programs at the University of Maryland, College Park. Led by the
relationship between OTC Artistic Director Jim Petosa and UMCP Department
of Theatre Chair Daniel Wagner, who also serves as Olney's resident
lighting designer, the affiliation spans the M.F.A. design programs
in scenic design, costume design and lighting design. Select students
in these programs acquire professional experience while studying
in their academic programs. Many receive credit for their degrees
by fulfilling professional tasks at Olney. The work of these students
is mentored by their university professors and by the theater's
professional artists and staff.

Middlebury College Department of Theatre
Each year since 1995, Olney Theatre Center has continued its annual
relationship with the Middlebury College Department of Theatre, through
its hosting of the Potomac Theatre Project as a major component of the
annual politically charged and artistically acclaimed Potomac Theatre
Festival. This festival, which utilizes all the performance facilities
of the Olney Theatre Center, is a theatrical highlight of the region's
theatrical activity.
Through the support of Middlebury College and the Olney Theatre Center,
Potomac Theatre Project is able to provide current students and recent alumni
with professional opportunities. Middlebury faculty members and Potomac
Theatre Project/Olney Theatre Center professional artists and staff
jointly mentor these opportunities, in acting, design, production
and arts management.
